CMYK is the primary colour code that is used for creating attractive images on your PC. ‘Cyan Magenta Yellow Black‘ concept states the combination of the darker category of colours other than red, green and blue.

CMYK states that darker the colours combinations mean sharp the image. Thus this is the mixture of these four colours which gets more mysterious and brighter, and then we keep on blending them more intensity. But, to give more intense colour strength, it is vital to add those colours in an equal ratio.

Wondering why equal amounts?

Adding equal amount has a reason that there is black colour among those subtractive colours which vary in the impurities of their inks. So, in CMYK, ‘K’ means black.

Now, the best thing about CMYK is it is supportable with GIMP. First, download Adobe ICC Profiles. So do wonders to the images using this colour code CMYK and have CMYK in your GIMP. Just with a few steps.

  • As it gets installed, then it will show RGB and CMYK files.
  • Then copy it to program files\GIMP2.0
  • Now you install them and you are done with it.

But, for smooth using of CMYK profiles in GIMP, install the separate.exe. File in your computer and then use it.

While using, CMYK you will get RGB files in your GIMP.

GIMP has RGB images set up so, to have CMYK format you need to convert your RGB into CMYK. Separate the RGB file from the menu column that appears on the right side of the screen. Now, if you adobe in your PC then, the resultant image will get automatically saved but if not, then you have to keep it manually.
The resultant image will be named on the basis on the colours as “C”, “M”, “Y”, and “K”. If you want to have the image to have the respective layers for the colours, then choose the ‘separate’ option.  This will enable you to have a white background in the first layer, and along with that, the other layers will have CMYK colours.

The colour choice is significant in giving effects to the image and matching it to the real-time image. If you want to have the photos with more beautiful effects in GIMP, then, add CMYK to your GIMP.

Nik Collection for GIMP – here’s how you can use it

In this automated world, we perform all our work with the help of computers. So being in such a technology-driven world, we all play with editing apps so much that we transform imagination into a different world.  So, everyone wants to have fresh pictures, the edited ones, and then we have Nik plugin that gives the beautiful effects and the more of editing tools in the editing apps. With Nik Collection for GIMP, have high-quality images with different interesting effects and features which arouse a feel in the pictures.

Make Sure to download GIMP Portable

Nik Collection for GIMP

Now, when we are talking about Nik plugin, how can we leave the desktop application GIMP, the image editor.

GIMP being popular among the editors, designers and all other professions, need a plug in to run. Then how to use it without a plugin?  Here, we will give you the solution for this.

Many many moons ago, then-Google acquired Nik Software in order to bolster it’s mobile photo editing efforts. Now, at the time, we were all wondering what was going to happen to Picasa and then-Google answered that question a bit later with the forced retirement of their desktop application. Then-Google, now-Alphabet, was making a run for the cloud and leaving desktop software offerings in the dust, no matter how popular they were among the masses.

How to Install Nik Collection on GIMP

The Nik Collection doesn’t show in the All Apps of the Windows Start menu as it default installs elsewhere. Which is fine. You don’t need to see it in the Start menu in order to use it, but you do need to know where to find where it was installed, which I addressed above. For those of you who skipped to the end, it can be found here:
On your (Windows) computer go to
C: → Program Files → Google → Nik
Since these instructions are for a workaround, some advanced features may not be available using Nik. In other words, you’ll have access to the most basic features only.
On your (Windows) computer go to:
C: → Program Files → Google → Nik

Then select each folder and copy the “.exe” files to this folder on the desktop, or wherever you want to put them. Personally, I created a folder on my desktop called “Nik” and dragged the .exe files into there. Also note, there are 32-bit executables as well as 64-bit. A 32-bit computer will not run the 64-bit files, but a 64-bit will run the 32-bit ones. This means, you can install the 32-bit executable files or, open the folder for each program, select the 64-bit subfolder and find the executables there.Nik Collection for GIMP

This allows the executables to be launched without having to go through Adobe’s software suite or the trouble of allowing GIMP to access Nik Collection. Yes, it’s a pain in the ass, but not as big of a PIA as the above directions.
Please note: using this method severely restricts the file-system of using the Nik suite, but it does allow Nik to be used without Adobe or GIMP.
Also note: the Nik module will allow you to save the work you’ve done but will more than likely overwrite the original file, so it’s best to work with a copy and not the original if you’re worried about the final product. Heck, it’s probably just a good idea to only work with a copy.

Just install Nik and GIMP, and also you need ShellOut to proceed in your device.

After the installation of these files is done, go to the program files and check out the Nik collection installed in your device.

Now the next step, where you have to convert the ShellOut into an unzipped file. And copy to GIMP plugin directory and find GIMP/plugins. Further, open this file in the notepad text editor in your PC.

Save it and launch GIMP in a new window, this makes it more comfortable as it also includes the Nik Collection, MS Paint and many more.

Now, choose the Nik collection of your choice.

But, the file needs to be in JPG files to save it. So, keep the JPG file in your PC and export it.

Nik plugin allows you to save the file in your PC.

Use GIMP without worries now, customise your pictures along with 3rd party.

Nothing clever, it is assembled using a script and the ‘buntu ‘gimp-edge’ ppa. This updates regularly and I will attempt to keep the following to the current build.
More dependency hell with Ubuntu 18.x versions. This Gimp 2.9.9 appimage is stuck with this release which is Dec 2017
Still very usable, no recent feature additions, just bug fixes

Unzip and run. It will run from your home partition. Same as a regular gimp, first run it creates a gimp profile, in this case ~/.config/GIMP/2.9  It will copy all your resources from ~/.gimp-2.8 so to save a lot of editing, temporarily rename ~/.gimp-2.8 and a new empty Gimp 2.9 profile is created.

I am not keen on those dark themes, so this is my preference + a shot of one nice addition to Gimp 2.9 – new layer options.  Plenty other new things to explore in GIMP portable on Ubuntu.

Photoshop filter plugin (PSPI) for GIMP

The user interface of GIMP is designed by a dedicated design and usability team. This team was formed after the developers of GIMP signed up to join the OpenUsability project. A user interface brainstorming group has since been created for GIMP, where users of GIMP can send in their suggestions as to how they think the GIMP user interface could be improved.

GIMP is presented in two forms, single and multiple window mode; GIMP 2.8 defaults to the multiple-window mode. In multiple-window mode a set of windows contains all GIMP’s functionality. By default, tools and tool settings are on the left and other dialogues are on the right. A layers tab is often to the right of the tools tab, and allows a user to work individually on separate image layers. Layers can be edited by right-clicking on a particular layer to bring up edit options for that layer. The tools tab and layers tab are the most common dockable tabs.

Photoshop filter plugin (PSPI) for GIMP

Photoshop filter plugin is a GIMP plug-in that runs 3rd-party Photoshop plug-in filters. You can also use this plugin in GIMP Portable It was written in 2001, and it initially worked on Windows only. Then nothing much happened until now (March 2006) when it became available also on Linux. All that was needed, basically, was for somebody to try building it using winegcc. Possibly building and running it on Linux might have worked already years ago, but nobody tried. Thanks to Mukund for trying it on Linux and reporting the success!

photoshop plugins for gimp, pspi, photoshop plugins works on gimp

Where to find Photoshop filter plug-in that are any good?

Google is your friend. You will find time-limited or functionally limited demo versions of commercial filters, and “freeware” filters. A lot of the 3rd-party filters that you can find on the net are mostly crap, though, and don’t do anything particularily exciting that one couldn’t do with GIMP already.

There are some exceptions though. I think that for instance many filters from Flaming Pear are highly regarded. You can find time-limited demo versions, and some giveaway fully functional ones from their site.

Some magazines that come with “cover” CD-ROMs, like Computer Arts, often include commercial Photoshop filters on the CD-ROMs. They might for instance be slightly older versions than those that you need to pay full price for.

Photoshop plug-in filters (for the Windows version of Photoshop, which is what we are talking about here) are actually Windows DLLs, which are dynamically loaded into the plug-in host process’s address space. They are files with the extension .8bf, though, not .dll. (GIMP plug-ins, on the other hand, are separate processes.)

Unlike GIMP plug-ins, 3rd-party Photoshop plug-ins don’t use any common user interface library. (GIMP plug-ins use GTK+, obviously.) This is because 3rd-party Photoshop plug-ins are usually available both for the Windows and Macintosh versions of Photoshop. Typically each company uses some homegrown widget library, with a look and feel that is widely different than the normal Windows common control look and feel, or the GTK+ look and feel.
What is in the binary packages?

The Windows package includes just pspi.exe. Put it in your GIMP plug-ins folder.

After starting GIMP, go to the Xtns:Photoshop Plug-in Settings and enter the folder where you are going to keep the 3rd-party Photoshop plug-ins (.8bf files) that you want to use in GIMP.

Preferrably you should use an initially empty folder for this, and then install (copy) Photoshop plug-ins there one by one, verifying that each works. It isn’t really useful to rush and install a shitload of Photoshop plug-ins at once and assume they all will work under pspi.

How to make the plugins work in GIMP

  • Step 1. Download the Photoshop filter plugin (pspi) for GIMP here.Open the archive “” and copy the plugin filter (pspi.exe) to the GIMP plugin directory:C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins
  • Step 2. Download and install AKVIS plugins you want to use. Don’t worry that GIMP is not recognized by the setup files.
  • Step 3. Open GIMP and select Photoshop Plug-in settings in the menu Filters.                                                 A new window will pop up:                                                                                                                                                          photoshop filter plugin, gimp portableClick on the first folder (“1”). The button in the middle of the window will be highlighted in red.Click on the last folder (“2”) and find the folder with AKVIS plugins (C:\Program Files (x86)\AKVIS).Hint: You can copy all necessary plugins (.8bf files) to a separate folder and add only this folder to GIMP.Press “OK”.
  • Step 4. After re-opening GIMP, you will find the newly installed AKVIS plugins in the menu Filters. They will become active when you open any picture.                                                                                                                              Photoshop filter plugin, GIMP Portable
  • Bear in mind that not all AKVIS plug-ins are fully compatible with GIMP which works with selection in other way than Photoshop.
